MCT oil and brain
When it comes to brain, MCT oil is one of the most supporting nutrients to consider. MCTs are fatty acids with 6–12 carbon chains that bypass normal fat digestion and are rapidly absorbed and metabolized by the liver for quick energy or ketone production. C8 (caprylic acid) and C10 (capric acid) are the most bioactive fractions. Derived from coconut or palm kernel oil. In clinical studies, mct oil supports ketone production, an alternative brain fuel source.
Effective dosing
Most evidence supports 5000–15000 mg of mct oil daily. Common supplemental dose is 5–15 g/day (1–3 tablespoons). C8 (caprylic acid) is the most ketogenic fraction. Start low to avoid GI discomfort. Softgel forms typically provide 1–3 g per serving. Products below this range may not deliver meaningful results.
What the research says
The clinical evidence for mct oil in brain is moderate. Several trials on energy and ketone production, but most health claims rest on small studies Learn more
