MCT oil and energy
MCT oil is a supporting nutrient for energy support. MCTs are fatty acids with 6–12 carbon chains that bypass normal fat digestion and are rapidly absorbed and metabolized by the liver for quick energy or ketone production. C8 (caprylic acid) and C10 (capric acid) are the most bioactive fractions. Derived from coconut or palm kernel oil. In clinical studies, mct oil rapidly converted to energy — bypasses normal fat digestion.
What dose to look for
Clinical studies typically use 5000–15000 mg of mct oil. Common supplemental dose is 5–15 g/day (1–3 tablespoons). C8 (caprylic acid) is the most ketogenic fraction. Start low to avoid GI discomfort. Softgel forms typically provide 1–3 g per serving. Supplements that fall short of this threshold are unlikely to match what clinical trials achieved.
What the research says
The clinical evidence for mct oil in energy is moderate. Several trials on energy and ketone production, but most health claims rest on small studies Learn more
