What the evidence says

Alpha-GPC is a choline-containing phospholipid that crosses the blood-brain barrier and serves as a precursor to acetylcholine. Italian multicenter trials (1994, 2001) using 1200 mg/day showed cognitive improvements in Alzheimer's and vascular dementia patients. A 2023 systematic review confirmed neuroprotective effects in cognitive decline.

About Alpha-GPC

Alpha-GPC is a choline-containing phospholipid that crosses the blood-brain barrier and serves as a precursor to acetylcholine. Italian multicenter trials (1994, 2001) using 1200 mg/day showed cognitive improvements in Alzheimer's and vascular dementia patients. A 2023 systematic review confirmed neuroprotective effects in cognitive decline. For sports performance, 600 mg acutely increased peak force in resistance-trained individuals (Bellar et al. 2015). Contains ~40% choline by weight, making it one of the most bioavailable choline sources. Generally well tolerated; headache and GI discomfort reported rarely.

What Alpha-GPC supports

  • Supports acetylcholine synthesis and cognitive function
  • May enhance power output in trained athletes
  • Highly bioavailable choline source crossing blood-brain barrier

How much Alpha-GPC to take

The RDA prevents deficiency. The effective range is what clinical trials used to actually move the outcome.

Effective

mg

Cognitive studies use 400–1200 mg/day. Power output studies use 300–600 mg acutely. Dementia trials used 1200 mg/day.

Clinical evidence

Moderate clinical evidence. Italian multicenter trials showed cognitive improvements; one study showed enhanced power output
