About CBD
CBD (cannabidiol) is widely marketed for sleep but consumer perception massively outstrips RCT evidence. A few small trials suggest anxiolytic effects at moderate doses, which may indirectly improve sleep. The largest case series (72 patients) showed 66% improved sleep scores initially but results fluctuated over time. Regulatory status varies by jurisdiction. No established RDA/UL.
What CBD supports
- May reduce anxiety, which can indirectly support sleep
- Limited and inconsistent evidence for direct sleep improvement
How much CBD to take
The RDA prevents deficiency. The effective range is what clinical trials used to actually move the outcome.
Effective
25β160
mg
Wide dose range in studies (25-1500 mg); sleep-specific trials typically used 25-160 mg.
Clinical evidence
Limited clinical evidence. Consumer perception far outpaces evidence; only a few small trials with inconsistent results
