About Diosmin
A citrus flavone venoactive drug. As micronized purified flavonoid fraction (MPFF / Daflon, 90% diosmin + 10% hesperidin) it has genuine RCT support: multiple randomized double-blind trials and a Cochrane review of phlebotonics (56 trials, 10 using MPFF) show reduced ankle/calf oedema and improved symptoms in chronic venous insufficiency, plus benefit in acute hemorrhoids. Evidence is strongest for venous disease specifically; benefits for other uses are unproven. Micronized/purified forms are absorbed better than plain diosmin. Grade moderate (venous indications).
What Diosmin supports
- Reduces leg swelling and symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency in RCTs
- Improves symptoms of acute hemorrhoidal flare-ups
How much Diosmin to take
The RDA prevents deficiency. The effective range is what clinical trials used to actually move the outcome.
Effective
600–1000
mg
Clinical dosing from chronic venous disease trials: diosmin 600 mg/day, or micronized purified flavonoid fraction (MPFF, 90% diosmin + 10% hesperidin) 1000 mg/day (500 mg twice daily). Sourced from CVI RCTs and the Cochrane phlebotonics review.
Clinical evidence
Moderate clinical evidence. Moderate: multiple RCTs and a Cochrane review support diosmin/MPFF for chronic venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids.
