Supplement

Taurodeoxycholic acid (TDCA, an ox bile constituent)

Evidence

Limited
Evidence: 2 of 5 (Limited)

What the evidence says

Taurodeoxycholic acid is a bile acid naturally present in ox bile extract, included in some fat-digestion/gallbladder supplements. It is chemically distinct from tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA), which has its own separate research base — the two must not be conflated.

No dedicated human RCTs; distinct from TUDCA, which has separate (also limited) research.

About Taurodeoxycholic acid (TDCA, an ox bile constituent)

Taurodeoxycholic acid is a bile acid naturally present in ox bile extract, included in some fat-digestion/gallbladder supplements. It is chemically distinct from tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA), which has its own separate research base — the two must not be conflated. No human RCTs support a standalone dose or benefit for taurodeoxycholic acid itself; some research has linked it to promotion of colonic cell damage at high exposure, so it is not a compound to overweight.

What Taurodeoxycholic acid (TDCA, an ox bile constituent) supports

  • Naturally occurring bile-acid component of ox bile extract — no dedicated RCTs support a specific benefit

Clinical evidence

Limited clinical evidence. No dedicated human RCTs; distinct from TUDCA, which has separate (also limited) research.
