Why Chondroitin for Bone & Joint

Chondroitin plays a important role in bone & joint. Chondroitin sulfate is a major structural component of cartilage, providing resistance to compression. It's a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) naturally found in connective tissue.

What dose to look for

Clinical studies typically use 800–1200 mg of chondroitin. Standard clinical dose is 800–1200 mg/day. The GAIT trial used 1200 mg/day. Often taken in divided doses. Most effective when combined with glucosamine sulfate. Products below this range may not deliver meaningful results.

What the research says

Chondroitin has moderate clinical evidence for bone & joint benefits. Multiple trials including the GAIT and MOVES studies support joint health at 800-1200mg/day Learn more

Clinical research on Chondroitin Sulfate

MODERATE — Large trials, mixed results · 800–1,200 mg/day

  • •GAIT trial (2006, 1,583 patients) found chondroitin alone did not outperform placebo for the overall population, but the glucosamine + chondroitin combination was effective for moderate-to-severe OA. PubMed
  • •2018 Cochrane review found chondroitin had small-to-moderate benefit on pain in knee/hip OA at 6 months, but clinical significance was borderline.
  • •Pharmaceutical-grade chondroitin (e.g., Condrosulf 800 mg/day) showed structural benefits (reduced joint space narrowing) in European RCTs — quality of the preparation appears to matter significantly.
