About Hydroxytyrosol
The most potent antioxidant polyphenol in olives, with one of the highest ORAC values of any natural compound. EFSA approved a health claim (EU 432/2012) that 5 mg/day from olive products protects blood lipids from oxidative damage — one of very few approved polyphenol health claims in the EU. Rapidly absorbed orally but extensively metabolized. Also studied for anti-inflammatory effects and endothelial function in small RCTs.
What Hydroxytyrosol supports
- EFSA-approved: protects blood lipids from oxidative damage at 5mg/day
- Potent antioxidant with high bioavailability
How much Hydroxytyrosol to take
The RDA prevents deficiency. The effective range is what clinical trials used to actually move the outcome.
Effective
5–25
mg
EFSA health claim requires minimum 5 mg/day hydroxytyrosol or its derivatives from olive products. Studies use 5–25 mg/day.
Clinical evidence
Moderate clinical evidence. EFSA-approved health claim at 5mg/day — one of the few polyphenols with regulatory-backed evidence for a specific health outcome
