About Spearmint
Mentha spicata, distinct from peppermint. A proprietary rosmarinic-acid-rich extract (Neumentix, 600-900 mg/day) showed small improvements in working memory and reactive agility in a few RCTs. Separately, small PCOS RCTs found spearmint tea (twice daily, ~30 days) lowered free/total testosterone with anti-androgen effect on hirsutism. Trials are small and short; benefits are modest and not confirmed in large populations.
What Spearmint supports
- Small trials suggest modest working-memory support (Neumentix extract)
- Spearmint tea showed mild anti-androgen effect in small PCOS trials
How much Spearmint to take
The RDA prevents deficiency. The effective range is what clinical trials used to actually move the outcome.
Effective
500–900
mg
Nootropic spearmint extract (Neumentix) trials used 600-900 mg/day; PCOS work used spearmint tea twice daily rather than a fixed extract dose.
Clinical evidence
Moderate clinical evidence. A few small RCTs (Neumentix cognition; spearmint-tea PCOS); modest, short-term.
