Calcium Disodium EDTAPreservative
Generally well tolerated at the low levels used as a preservative and poorly absorbed orally, which limits systemic risk. But EDTA is a non-selective chelator: at higher chronic intakes it can bind and deplete essential minerals (zinc, iron) and has caused GI upset. Acceptable at trace preservative levels, but worth avoiding when a product also delivers minerals that EDTA could sequester.
Benzyl AlcoholPreservative
A recognized fragrance/contact allergen that must be declared on EU cosmetic labels, and a documented neonatal toxicity risk (gasping syndrome) in injectables, so it is avoided in infant products. Well tolerated by most adults at the 1% cap.
Polysorbate 60Emulsifier
A polysorbate emulsifier in the same family as polysorbate 80, which Chassaing et al. 2015 (Nature) showed can thin the gut mucus barrier and disrupt the microbiome in mice. Direct human evidence for the 60 variant is thinner, but the shared mechanism warrants caution.
Polyoxyl Castor OilEmulsifier
PEG-ylated castor oil used as a nonionic surfactant and solubilizer for poorly soluble actives
Natural FlavorsFlavor
Broad regulatory category of flavor constituents derived from natural sources. Composition is proprietary and not disclosed — 'Natural Flavors' can include several hundred different compounds depending on the target flavor profile, including hexane-extracted constituents and proprietary carrier solvents. 'Natural' is a regulatory definition (21 CFR §101.22), not a safety guarantee.
Potassium SorbatePreservative
Natural preservative derived from sorbic acid
Sorbitan MonostearateEmulsifier
A sorbitan ester of stearic acid used as a non-ionic emulsifier
Purified WaterSolvent
Water meeting USP specifications used as solvent/vehicle in gummies and liquids

The score analyzes what's on the label: ingredient doses vs. clinical ranges, chemical forms, evidence levels, and known interactions. It does not verify label accuracy or test for contaminants — for that, look for third-party certifications like USP or NSF.
