Zeaxanthin plays a important role in vision. Zeaxanthin is a xanthophyll carotenoid and an isomer of lutein. It concentrates at the very center of the macula (fovea), while lutein is more peripheral โ together they provide complete macular pigment coverage. In clinical studies, zeaxanthin concentrates at the fovea โ the exact center of sharpest vision.
